Thank You For Coming to Heartland Dog Training Center

There will be Lesson sheets each week. Please place them in a notebook or folder for easy reference. You will be asked to refer back to them from time to time. Be sure to get the password to access next weeks' lessons.

Always make it a Happy experience when you put the training collar on your dog. Keep a box of their favorite treats by the collar and reward your dog - After - you have the collar on. Give your dog a lot of Happy Chatter while you are placing the collar over its head. The words won't matter, but the tone of voice you use will.

Choose a Release word to use each time you finish an exercise. It will let your dog know it is OK to move. I use OK for my dogs. Whatever word you choose to use, be consistent and use the same word each time.

Break up your training sessions. Work a little, then give your dog its Release Word and play a little with them. Then begin training again. Short and Positive training sessions are a Must. A Dog Learns by Repetition so work your dog 15 to 20 minutes a day - No Longer!.Always end your training with something your dog does well. It is unfair to your dog to expect it to learn and do well in class - if you have not been working with your dog at home.

Ask Questions!! If you are unsure about anything or didn't understand what we have shown, Ask. No question is considered a dumb one, no matter how small or simple it is. Speak Up. We are Here to Help You and we want to know if there is a problem.

We will give you all the help we can, but remember, The Degree of Success You Have with Your Dog Will Depend On You. Your dog will be a member of your family for ten years or more. Are you willing to give them 15 to 20 minutes a Day for Eight Weeks to Insure That for the Rest of their Life, they will live a Happy, Safe Existence in your Home? That is what it will take. The effort is so very small for the reward you will receive - that of a Dog With Manners, and Paws That Behave!

How to Dress for the classes. In our winter classes, don't dress too warmly. It might be below 0º outside, but after a few trips around the ring, you'll wish you could take that sweater off. Wear something you can remove if you get too warm. We sometimes sit on the floor, so dress accordingly. Low Heeled comfortable shoes are a Must. No Slings, Clogs, Thongs, Sandals, High-Heeled Shoes or Boots Will be Allowed on the Training Floor. Tennis shoes are ideal. They give comfort, plus grip on the floor.

We Wish You Success in the Next 8 Weeks.
