There is a Right and a Wrong way training collarto put the Training Collar on your dog. Since the collar looks the same on both ends, we will give each ring a name.

  1. Snap the leash on one ring of the collar.
      This becomes the 'Leash Ring'.
    1. Drop the chain through the other ring.
This now becomes the 'Sliding Ring'.

This is the correct way the collar should look when you are facing your dog and when you are beside your dog.

The directions are for the dog that is kept on the Left side of the Handler. Dogs should be taught to walk on the left side of you, leaving the right hand free to open doors, carry parcels, etc. Teaching your dog to walk on a certain side will eliminate their constant weaving back and forth in front of you. They will come to know exactly where they are supposed to be.

Warning: Your Training Collar could kill your dog

Ever wonder why it is sometimes referred to as a 'Choke' collar? The reason is that many dogs have choked to death wearing one. The owners of these dogs left the collar on when the dog was unattended and the ring became caught on something. The dog tried to pull away and, not being able to slip out of the collar, the dog choked to death.

We cannot Impress Upon You Enough, the Importance of Nevber Leaving the Training Collar on Your Dog, Unless you are Right There with Your Dog. The Training Collar is a great tool for training. It is comfortable on your dog and humane. It only becomes a potential 'choke' collar when it is left on an unattended dog.

You should have a buckle type collar on your dog for identification and tags. If you have a leather collar, attach a tag with your name and phone number. On a nylon collar, you can have a tag or take a permanent marker and put your name and phone number on it. Owner identification can be made through the Rabies tag number, but that would take time. With your name and phone number, you can be reached immediately.
