The first thing to remember is this is a D-O-G you are training, not a little person, (even tho they think they are people), so you must accept the way a dog learns. It is through repetition, along with pleasant and unpleasant experiences. The pleasant is must be uncomfortable, (not extreme pain), for the dog to learn.

There is no one force of correction that will work on all dogs. Each dog is different as to the point that they feel discomfort. There are 'soft' dogs that, if you say something in an angry, loud voice, they are crushed. The in-between dogs will only need a slight correction and then there are the 'hard' dogs that will need a more forceful correction. You will find soft to hard dogs in every breed and out of the same litter.

The Three Most Important Words in Dog Training Are Patience, Praise and Consistency.

Praise is the Only way your dog will know it is doing the right thing. They want to please you and will do it - if they understand what you are asking. That is where the patience comes in to play. Since a dog learns through repetition, you must repeat and repeat an exercise until the dog knows what you expect it to do.

Each dog will learn at a different pace, so don't judge your dog's progress against another dog. Rather look back at yesterday's practice session. Is today's a little better? If you are making the right corrections and using a lot of praise, it is bound to be.

Don't expect Too Much Too Soon.

This is a learning experience for you and your dog. We do not expect you to come to class and after the first lesson, be an expert handler, nor should you expect your dog to be perfectly trained right away. Take your time and have patience. Once your dog knows an exercise, it will never forget it.

The Success You Will Have Depends On Y_O_U.

We can show you what to do, but unless you carry out these instructions, do not expect to have Paws That Behave.

A Few Tips

During this learning period, One person should do the training. It is less confusing for the dog. Once your dog knows what to do, it will respong to anyone. Please Do Not let children try to emulate the training lessons.
